Colorado Marriage & Civil Union Licenses

A Marriage or Civil Union License is required when getting married in Colorado – licenses can be issued in any county, and can be used in any county, and both parties must be present when obtaining a Marriage or Civil Union License. Please visit the county websites listed below for further details and requirements.

The fee is $30.00 as of July 1, 2009. Cash, checks or credit cards are accepted. A license issued by another state is not valid in Colorado.

Age
The age requirements for the bride and groom are the same:

  • 18 and older – No parental consent is required.
  • 16 & 17 – Consent of both parents, or the parent having sole legal custody, or guardian, or judicial approval is required.
  • Younger than 16 – Consent of parents or guardian and judicial approval, court order, are required – No exceptions.

Identification
Valid identification must be furnished by both parties. Example: passport, birth certificate, drivers license, military I.D., etc.

Blood Test
As of July 1, 1989, blood tests are not required for either party in the State of Colorado.


Denver, Colorado Marriage License

To apply for a marriage or civil union license in Denver, both you and your intended partner must appear in person at the license counter at the Office of the Clerk and Recorder, located on the first floor of the Webb Municipal Office Building, 201 W. Colfax Ave., Denver.

HOURS TO APPLY FOR A LICENSE ARE 8:00 A.M. – 4:30 P.M., MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY. Our office is closed on municipal holidays and city budget furlough days.

Summit County, CO Marriage License

A license to marry in Colorado may be obtained at the Summit County Courthouse in Breckenridge during normal office hours. The license is valid upon receipt, and must be used within 30 days in the State of Colorado. The fee is $30 and only cash or check is accepted.
